MANILA, Philippines – Malacaang on Friday awarded many credits to the government’s increased testing capacity, which he said is one thing for the Philippines that surpasses Indonesia in terms of the number of coronavirus cases.
“Ibig sabihin po dahil mas maigting ang ating page-test, hindi po totoo na mas marami tayong kaso in Indonesia. Hindi lang nalalaman ng a indonesian kung sino sino yung mga umiikot na meron na pong sakit. At least tayo in, alam natin kung sino na po sila,” presidential spokesman Harry Roque said in a briefing.
Roque noted that the Philippines had more than 1.6 million population tests from Indonesia’s 908,000.
“The population rate of the population, throughout our population, is 1.5%. Ikumpara niyo naman is 0.34% of Indonesia,” Roque said.
(If we take a look at the population of any of the countries, the tests we have done in relation to the length of our population are 1.5% to 0.34% in Indonesia).
Indonesia has a population of approximately 267 million, more than double the 106 million people in the Philippines.
When asked for an explanation on his basis when he said the Philippines had fewer COVID-19 cases, Roque admitted that he was unsure how to respond and more under pressure that the country was testing more people than Indonesia.
“Hindi ko in alam how to do this. Just ang malinaw lang in in its similar, Indonesia in, with about the same cases as us, has a third of the real tests we do on our people,” Roque said.
Then you have a forged base for ‘in Hindi’ and ‘what you mean’ in Indonesia. Mas marami lang tayong kaso na nalalaman na dito sa Pilipinas dahil nga in 3 times more evidence than the Indonesian tests,” he continued.
(That’s why I say it’s inconclusive to say that the Philippines has more cases in Indonesia. We are only seeing more cases in the Philippines because our tests are 3 times more than those in Indonesia).
The Manila Metropolitan Area, as well as the provinces of Laguna, Cavite, Rizal and Bulacan, had in the past returned to stricter quarantine measures until August 18 to give the first medical lines a “waiting period” and give the government time to redouble their efforts against COVID-19.
