ISLAMABAD (Reuters) – Pakistan’s de facto physique minister Zafar Mirza resigned Wednesday amid the pandemic, raising a complaint from his dual-nationality advisers.
The resignation came at a time when Pakistan could see an increase in the spread of the virus due to two major Muslim manifestations in the coming weeks.
Mirza, one of several special assistants to the Prime Minister, or SAPM, who were criticized by opposition parties for being a national double or unelected members of parliament.
Aher of Councillors Tania Aidrus resigned on grounds of dual nationality. Mirza implied that he had a nationality other than Pakistan in his heritage statement.
“Due to continued negative discussions about THE role of SAPM and the government complaint, I have chosen to resign,” he said in a Twitter post. “I am pleased to leave at a time when COVID-19 has declined in Pakistan.”
Pakistan has recently experienced a downward trend in COVID-19 cases, which critics say occurs due to weak tests, reducing the number of infections to 1,000 from more than 5,000.
276,288 coronavirus infections and 5,892 deaths were reported.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has pakistan increasing daily testing to more than 50,000, however, after reaching a maximum of 31,000 tests, the South Asian country has reduced it to about 20,000 per day.
The government warned others who oppose violating public fitness measures.
