Pakistan’s fruit and vegetable exports rise despite COVID-19

In a press Tuesday, Mian Waheed Ahmed of the Pakistan Fruit and Vegetable Exporters Association said the volume of exports had increased by more than 12%. It said fruit exports increased by 3. 8% compared to last year, while vegetables reflected 28% export accumulation.

Mian Waheed Ahmed said the PFVA has translated demanding COVID-19 situations into opportunities through exports and the adoption of realistic methods with the federal government’s focus on foreign markets in Iran and Afghanistan.

He said the country had seized this exclusive opportunity and took a step forward in the export of cereals, potatoes and onions despite serious logistical and transport disorders arising from the pandemic. At the height of the pandemic, Pakistan exported delicious and highly nutritious mangoes to many countries around the world, he said.

Waheed added that in addition to maintaining consistency in obtaining better exports of fruit and vegetables, it is also imperative to take the mandatory measures to give more flavor to exports in this sector. To achieve this objective, the PFVA presented to the government a comprehensive roadmap entitled “Horticulture Vision 2030”, which was developed in close consultation with all stakeholders in the horticultural sector in all provinces.
