When Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan introduced the crusade to plant 10 billion trees in the country on August 9, a video showing citizens of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province tearing off freshly planted samples went viral.
According to Pakistani media, citizens of the Bara domain of Khyber district held a demonstration after the district administration opened the crusade. The former locals piled up in it and said the crusade had entered their lands, saying the government sought to strip them of their lands.
Sharing a video of the scene, the tweep @NKMalazai wrote: “Meanwhile, the day of planting in the Khyber tribal district.
Speaking to local media, a district administration official said there was a dispute between two tribes over land ownership. “One party contributed when the crusade was inaugurated, while the other was unaware of the crusade and ripped off the young trees,” he said.
The mob attacked district administration officials, Tiger Force volunteers, and ripped off young trees. Khyber’s lead minister Pakhtunkhwa is also aware of the incident.
According to Pakistani media, after the videos of the incident went viral, the government took action. Stakeholders had the opportunity to correct what they had done.
The men had to plant trees from the young trees they destroyed. They were also promised to plant even more trees on the ground.
A video of locals replanting the trees was posted online.
Tweep @PromoterBoxing published: “The KPK government (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) took action against criminals affected by the wounds at the plant in Khyber district before morning! Residents have apologized on their behalf and are only replanting trees, but they have also promised to plant more trees.
Khan presented the country’s tree planting crusade on Sunday with the goal of planting 3.5 million young trees in the country on a single day.
