Pakistan to Chinese coronavirus vaccine trials

According to the Pakistan National Institute of Health (NIH), regulators have evidence of a vaccine being developed through CanSinoBio and the Beijing Institute of Biotechnology in China.

The drug is already undergoing phase 3 trials, or large-scale human trials, in China, Russia, Chile and Argentina, and Saudi Arabia will participate, the NIH said.

“This will be the first Phase 3 trial ever conducted for a vaccine in Pakistan,” the NIH said in a statement.

Pakistan’s inclusion in the trials would ensure “the source and preferential costs of vaccines,” he added.

The trials will be conducted at various medical services in Pakistan, in addition to the Indus Hospital in Karachi.

“I hope we get the vaccine in three or four months,” Abdul Bari, who runs the Indo hospital, told AFP.
