Pakistan: Three Policemen Killed in Tank Terror Attack

Police spokesperson said DSP Chan Shah led a police team on Saturday to arrest the kidnappers of a woman in Shah Noor village when unidentified assailants opened fire on the vehicle. The police spokesperson said the attackers opened fire on the police after seeing the police team. according to the Amanecer report.

According to a police spokesman, SHO Shaheed Mureed Akbar, Abdul Ali Khan and two officers, Wahab and Mohammad Alam, were killed in the attack. He further stated that five police officers, DSP Chan Shah, Officers Ishfaq, Wafaq and Hidayat of Elite Force and officers Riaz and Ikram of Tank district were injured.

He said the injured officers were taken to Tank Hospital. Shortly after the ambush, a giant contingent of police officers, in addition to the Rapid Reaction Force, arrived at the scene of the crime, Dawn said.

Nasir Mehmood Satti, Dera Ismail Khan regional police chief, said police and security forces had introduced operations against terrorists. He said such cowardly attacks could demoralize the police.

Earlier, on Nov. 7, two policemen were killed and three others wounded in a terrorist attack on an oil and fuel company in Dera Ismail Khan of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Pakistan-based Geo News reported.

The Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) said the terror attack took place in Dera Ismail Khan’s Tehsil Drazanda, claimed the lives of two police officers and injured three others. He added that one of the officers was in critical condition. According to the DSP, a police corps of workers has been deployed to ensure the safety of the oil company.

Pakistan has observed an increase in terrorist activity in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan since the end of the ceasefire between the banned organization Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Pakistani government in November last year.

In a report published in October, the Center for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) said 386 security officials lost their lives in the first nine months of 2023, reaching an eight-year high, according to a Geo News report.

In the third quarter of 2023, about 445 more people were killed and another 440 injured in 190 terrorist attacks and counterterrorism operations, Geo News reported.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan remained the main hotbeds of violence, accounting for approximately 94 per cent of all deaths and 89 per cent of attacks, including terrorist incidents, and security forces or security forces recorded this consistent period.
