Islamabad: The spread of the coronavirus is even though everything is slowing down in Pakistan, as the country has noticed the lowest number of deaths since the start of the pandemic, fitness officials said on Monday. However, the government has asked others to remain vigilant as COVID-19 remains a risk and the next two weeks are very important to contain the virus.
“Today we have the lowest number of deaths in Pakistan by COVID-19 in the last 3 months,” said Health Minister Dr. Zafar Mirza. On July 26, Pakistan reported 20 coronavirus deaths on an unmarried day compared to peak days when 153 deaths were reported on June 20. This progression shows an 87% relief in COVID-19-like deaths, Dr. Mirza said, but warned that there was no room for complacency and asked for caution during the holiday of Eid Al Adha.
Prime Minister Imran Khan on COVID-19, Dr. Faisal Sultan, also praised the advanced fitness scenario and the drastic decline in cases across the country and appreciated the collaborative efforts of the federal and provincial governments to involve the spread of the virus.
On 26 July, the country recorded 1,176 cases and 20 deaths. A total of 22,000 tests have been conducted in the last 24 hours. Pakistan has so far shown more than 274,000 cases and about 5,800 deaths. The active number of coronavirus cases in the country is now 27421, while the cure rate exceeds 86%. Pakistan has conducted more than 1.8 million coronavirus tests since the outbreak last February, however, fitness experts are still urged by the government to test capacity.
In the last 24 hours, Punjab province has reported 172 cases of new infections, compared to more than 1,400 cases in a singles case that is the peak of the virus. For the first time since May, the province did not report deaths on 26 July. The total number of cases shown in Punjab is now 92,073 and the death toll from the virus is 2,116.
On 26 July, the Capital Islamabad recorded 43 new cases and one death, while Kashmir recorded 11 new cases and Gilgit Baltistán reported 37 new cases and one death, raising the collective number of new cases in the 3 regions to 91.
Information Minister Shibli Faraz said the Pakistani government’s “balanced strategy with a “smart closure” had helped the country cope with the pandemic. He said some countries had observed a strict blockade to prevent spread, but now face economic hardship and an increase in the number of deaths. Since Pakistan may not be a complete blockade, it provided a wise technique to save valuable lives, as well as the economy, which worked, he added.
