PAHO grateful for Philippine nurse facilities COVID-19

CALOOCAN CITY, (PIA) — The Office of the Press Secretary (PAHO) on Monday expressed its gratitude to the Filipino nurses here and for their services, especially at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a report by the Philippine News Agency. . .

PAHO made the announcement on its official Facebook page as the country celebrates Nursing Week in October.

“Taos-pusong nagpapasalamat ang Office of the Press Secretary sa ating mga nars sa bansa y sa iba’t ibang bahagi ng mundo (The Office of the Press Secretary sincerely thanks our nurses in the country and in other parts of the world), “says PAHO.

“‘Di mapapantayan ang husay and malasakit na kanilang ipinamalas lalo na nang dumating ang COVID-19 pandemie (The compassion they have shown is second to none, especially when the COVID-19 pandemic hit),” he added.

PAHO also suggested that the public show their appreciation to Filipino nurses for their sacrifices.

Nursing Week is celebrated each and every last week of October under Proclamation No. 539 signed on October 17, 1958 by President Carlos García.

On September 1, President Ferdinand R. Marcos pledged to raise the profile and improve the functioning situations of nurses at home and abroad in a speech delivered on his participation in the centennial birthday party of the Nurses Association of the Philippines, Inc. at the Manila Hotel.

He said the existing salaries and benefits of nurses in the Philippines were not enough, but noted that the government would probably not yet have a budget to cover this.

Marcos also promised to open more spaces for the deployment of nurses abroad as he searches for domestic opportunities.

It also supported the passage of House Bill 9389 or the Philippine New Nursing Practice Act, which imposes greater nursing career coverage and progression in the country.

Speaking about his own experience after contracting COVID-19 twice, Marcos said he witnessed how Filipino nurses risked their lives to care for the sick and even chose not to return home to spread the virus to their families.

He said Filipino nurses stand out from others only for their ability and dedication, but also for their “compassion and kindness. “(PIA-NCR)
