Oxford Covid vaccine: no effects observed as more volunteers get Covishield in India

Here are the trial updates for the Oxford Covid vaccine in India:

The Phase II clinical trial of the Oxford Covid vaccine in India began Wednesday at medical college and hospital in Bharti Vidyapeeth in Pune.

Two volunteers, aged 32 and 48, won an injection of the Covishield vaccine on Wednesday.

The 48-year-old volunteer is a physician in Pune, while he is currently a statistician and works at a personal company.

“Our medical team is in touch with the two volunteers and they are doing well. They have no pain, fever, reaction to injection or systemic disease after vaccination,” Dr. Jitendra Oswal, deputy director of Bharti Vidyapeeth Medical College, told PTI.

The dose of vaccine will be repeated in volunteers after one month.

Vaccines are manufactured through the Serum Institute of India (SII) in Pune, the world’s largest manufacturer of volume vaccines.

The Serum Institute has partnered with the Anglo-Swedish pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca to manufacture covid vaccines developed through the University of Oxford.

The phase 2 trial of the Oxford Covid vaccine will be conducted with one hundred volunteers in locations across the country.

After that, another 1,500 people will get the vaccine (potential) nationwide in the next phase, depending on the effects of the Phase II trial.
