Opinion: Meeting of the dual cities of Belarus, Russia aims to promote interregional ties

PSKOV, October 17 (BelTA) – The assembly of dual cities of Belarus and Russia aims to promote interregional ties, said Sergei Paramonov, executive vice president of the International Association of Sister Cities, at the 11th assembly of sister cities of Belarus and Russia. in Pskov from October 14 to 16, BelTA learned.

For 24 years, the foreign arrangement has cooperated strongly with the Belarusian public organization Twin Cities. Meetings between Belarus and Russia were held regularly. The previous discussion on cooperation between the dual cities of Belarus and Russia took place in October 2021 in the Belarusian Zhodino and now Pskov Russia has organized discussions on tactics for relations between Russia and Belarus.

Sergei Paramonov noted that the foreign arrangement Sister Cities was founded in 1964. The year 2024 will mark its 60th anniversary and the 80th anniversary of the first dualing: between Soviet Stalingrad and English Coventry, which marked the beginning of the entire foreign movement of dual cities. The settlement has developed a 2023-2024 biennial action plan committed to those two anniversaries and aimed at restoring intercommunal ties within the framework of public diplomacy.

The occasion in Pskov brought together representatives of about 60 cities in Belarus and Russia to discuss existing progress problems and clients for bilateral cooperation. Emphasis was placed on trade, economic, investment, social, cultural and educational cooperation.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and Russian President sent greetings to the 11th assembly of the dual cities of Belarus and Russia.
