‘Online Hours’: Oakville Mayor Rob Burton sounds alarm over COVID-19 problems

Oakville Mayor Rob Burton is sounding the alarm about hospital bottlenecks as a result of the growing need for COVID-19 testing.

On a Saturday, September 18, Burton said he had won quite a few court cases from citizens who had not been able to get tested at the right time.

“We have reports of other people waiting hours in the queues to get tested and now days to make appointments,” Burton said.

The mayor noted that the challenge comes at a time when there are cases of coronavirus and academics return to school and workers in commercial locations.

He said the need for testing is expanding because anyone with symptoms of COVID-19 would want to get tested to get back to school or work.

On Wednesday, September 16, Conservative Party of Canada leader Erin O’Toole told the media that after waiting hours, he and his circle of relatives had been evicted from a testing center in Ottawa due to capacity issues. .

They were tested the next morning in Gatineau, Quebec, which prioritizes testing for parliamentarians and their families.

“Meanwhile, on the COVID-19 checklist, I crossed out the number of families waiting like ours,” O’Toole said in a press release.

“Children are sent home from school for review and it’s hard for moms and dads to calm them down. The check itself is unpleasant for an adult, but it’s worse for a parent to see their young child take the check. “

O’Toole has since tested for the virus.

With regard to delays in COVID-19, O’Toole blamed the liberal federal government, saying it had refused to approve other COVID-19 detection methods.

On Thursday, September 17, Ontario Health Medical Director Dr. David Williams said the province is preparing to identify more evaluation centers.

He also stated that those who had no symptoms of COVID-19 or who had not had contact with a user with COVID-19 might want to postpone them to an evaluation center until the call for tests decreases.

Burton is asking citizens to write to the Premier and his MPS about the issues.

“Tell them you need action, excuses,” he says.

“While the province says it is looking to speed up testing, I know that local hospitals have bottlenecks and this can be harmful to many. Like Yoda said, “Don’t try! Do it or don’t do it. There is no judgment. “
