Peliasy High School, one of two Lithuanians in Belarus, has been closed, reports the Svetly Shlyakh newspaper.
Before the start of the school year, the school “checked” through the Inspectorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations. During the inspection, as reported in the Ministry of Emergency Situations, several violations were revealed at Peliasy High School.
“Thus, the unhindered evacuation of young people and teachers from the school grounds in case of emergency is not guaranteed, no coverage against smoke and defense against the spread of fire is not provided. In addition, the premises have been reprofiled according to their functional purpose. The warehouses have been converted into study rooms and workshops,” said Volha Adzieva, official representative of the regional branch of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
According to her, the known violations “create a risk to the life and health of schoolchildren and teachers. “On this basis, a proposal was sent to the school principal to suspend the school’s activities until the known deficiencies are eliminated.
“All the students, totaling 40 young people from the Lida district and 74 from the Voranava district, will be transferred to their place of residence. Each of the 24 teachers, totaling 10 Lithuanian citizens, will be presented with an assignment in the Voranava region.
With the closure of the Peliasy school, there is only one Lithuanian school left in Belarus, in Rymdziuny.
Peliasy School, the first Lithuanian language school in Belarus, opened its doors in 1992 and last year more than 120 young people studied there, the staff included 23 teachers, adding 11 Lithuanian citizens. It is a personal school institution, from the moment of its opening and so until now, the school has been funded through the Lithuanian Ministry of Education. In April, when it became known that Lithuanian-language schooling had prevented it, the branch threatened to avoid allocating the school budget if the resolution was not reversed.
