Oman’s Pinch App Helps Tourists Locate Attractions and Facilities

The concept emerged in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic in an effort to respond to the changing domestic tourism landscape.

Muscat: The exclusive Pinch app is gaining traction. The app, which provides comprehensive data on tourist sites and contacts, evolved through entrepreneur Fahmi al Ma’awali.

The idea emerged in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic with the objective of addressing the evolving landscape of domestic tourism. Called Pinch.om, the app aims to revolutionise the way travellers explore and experience Oman.

“As I observed a surge in domestic tourism, it was clear that people were increasingly relying on Instagram guides to discover new locations,” Ma’awali said.

“However, considerations about safety, navigation, and the lack of reliable data sparked the idea of creating an app that not only raises awareness about Oman’s good looks but also ensures stylish and safe enjoyment for adventurers. “

Originally named Smappy, the app has evolved since, settling on the name Pinch in a nod to users’ action when zooming in on online maps.

Pinch.om has three primary objectives – to boost domestic tourism; empower guides and monetise expertise; and ensure safety, eliminate mystery and save time.

Ma’awali identified the growing interest in exploring her own country and sought to boost this trend by offering a platform that fosters a deeper connection with local landscapes to bring domestic tourism to life. In the context of the goal of the moment, Ma’awali understood Pinch. om allows guides to detail and monetize their experience, creating a symbiotic relationship that benefits both guides and travelers.

Keeping in mind that protection and transparency are paramount for adventurers, Pinch. om aims to eliminate the uncertainty surrounding it by offering comprehensive information, saving time, and improving the overall experience.

“The core features of the app contribute to its uniqueness and functionality. It has an intuitive interface; Using Google Maps ensures a friendly and familiar experience. It has complex filters that allow users to perform activities and locate guides based on Instagram names. In addition, it has internal messages for guides and adventurers to speak directly, similar to popular messaging apps,” Ma’awali said.

The app also comes with a recorder, a feature that provides comprehensive advice for users to dream, plan, book, live, and share their adventures seamlessly. There is also a fort and castle locator with data on 850 applicable sites.

While enabling users to effortlessly find and book tickets to explore Oman’s rich history, it allows monetisation and a sustainable income stream for contributors.

Ma’awali, however, emphasized that Pinch. om is more than just an app: it’s a reporting and data portal for locals to provide cultural data sought through tourists and adventurers.

The app is free for users to explore locations using pins, but when services are required, financial discussions can take place directly with service providers.

Beyond Oman, Ma’awali envisions Pinch. om as a global destination directory, satisfying the desires of travelers in enchanting and challenging locations around the world, adding Saudi Arabia, Africa and India.

“The app is like an artist’s canvas. We need it to be full of enchanting colours so that the world can enjoy Oman as it is,” he said.
