Oman Environmental Service Holding Company (Be’ah) will launch a tender for the allocation of a biogas plant in southern Al Batinah in 2022, the company said in its latest substantial report.

“Since the allocation is still in the design phase, lately we are aligning with several entities interested in installing a biogas plant at their facilities to treat biological waste generated at the site or in surrounding areas,” the state said. the company said. The biogas plant treats the biological waste generated at source through an anaerobic digestion process, diverting the biological waste from landfills before it reaches them.

Meanwhile, the tender procedure for the Barka waste-to-energy plant is recently underway in coordination with Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWC), according to the report.

The plant will process about 4,500 tons per day to generate 160 megawatt hours of electricity, according to the report, adding that it is expected to start operations in 2027-2028.

The WTE facility will be operated for 35 years as a construction, owned, operated and relocation (BOOT) project through a foreign consortium, which will be awarded the contract in a bidding process, according to the report.
