The number of arrivals of GCC nationals increased to 1,187. 9%
The Sultanate of Oman is experiencing a sharp increase in the number of tourists from neighbouring GCC countries, especially in the months of June and July, which coincide with the Khareef season in southern Oman.
According to the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), the number of arrivals of GCC citizens increased by 1,187. 9%, from 6,870 at the same time last year to 88,0479 at the end of July, followed by an increase in the number of European tourists increased by 703. 2% to 193,644 from 24,109 a year ago.
The number of Omani visitors fell by 7. 1%, from 447,659 to 415,711. The number of American visitors increased by 191. 6% to 30,210, while the number of African visitors increased by 103. 3% to 4682 visitors. 33. 4% to 83,736 from 111,703 last year.
Khareef Airport, Salalah experienced an influx of 315,000 passengers traveling to the airport.
Among the airlines operating in the region, the cheap Wizz Air operates two weekly flights from Abu Dhabi to Salalah, Gulf Air operates two weekly flights from the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Revenue from 3- to 5-star hotels in the Sultanate of Oman increased by 117. 6% at the end of July 2022, while the occupancy rate of those hotels was 25. 4%.
The monthly tourism bulletin published by the highlighted an increase in the total number of visitors to those hotels of 45. 4%, reaching 903,000 consumers at the end of July last year, compared to the same period of 2021, with a total of 620,979 visitors.
It should be noted that the Covid-19 pandemic has severely affected the tourism sector for two years as evidenced by the figures published by the National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI) in its annual bulletin.
The Minister of Heritage and Tourism (MoHT) recently told the media that the pandemic has hit the tourism sector hard and that only about 20,000 job opportunities have been lost in the process. He said the sector’s losses amounted to almost RO 1300 million in this period.
