Oman: renewed visa in passports is mandatory

ROP resources said the new one is meant to ease the visa stamping process.

The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has clarified that a renewed visa is required in passports. A renewed resident card would serve this purpose.

The explanation of the ROP follows a wave of doubts raised by citizens of the Sultanate of Oman regarding the online renewal of the classic visa stamping on passports.

Extra resources of the ROP indicated that the new practice, which has been in force for a few weeks, aims to make the visa stamping procedure more efficient.

“The resolution has been made to prevent renewal visas from being stamped on residents’ passports. It is enough to renew the same in the formula and in the resident card,” confirmed a senior ROP official.

“It doesn’t matter to the individual whether or not the stamp is in the passport, however, they will be able to provide the resident card as proof of residency,” he added.

However, some other people have expressed fears that the same will apply to ports of access to other countries, as the immigration government verifies visas stamped on passports.

“This resolution (not to place the visa in the passport) is a big step towards ease of travel, but I wonder if the resident card would be enough as proof of my presence in the Sultanate of Oman,” said businessman Naushad Sulaiman.
