Cairo: Oman’s government fined an expatriate 2,000 rials for illegally promoting chewing tobacco for health reasons, a local newspaper reported.
The man, whose nationality has not been revealed, was recently arrested through the Consumer Protection Authority of Barka State in northern Oman for rape, the Omani news portal Al Shabiba added.
The offender had sold smokeless chewing tobacco in a residential in violation of the Consumer Protection Act, which prohibits it, according to the report.
He had been fined OMR 2,000 for recidivism.
The Consumer Protection Authority undertakes to strictly monitor the market in order to report infringements negative to the suitability and protection of consumers and to take legal action against infringers.
