Cairo: The Oman Coast Guard thwarted a smuggling of a giant stash of stimulant illicit qat into the country.
The Royal Oman Police (ROP), the coast guard of Dhofar governorate in southern Oman, arrested 3 smugglers of an Arab citizen on a boat at sea with 1,216 packets of qat stimulant in their possession.
“Legal proceedings are ongoing against them,” ROP added on Twitter giving further details.
Under Oman law, drug-related offences are punishable by death and a fine of up to OMR 50,000.
