Welcomed the projects of CICIA and the Union of Commodity Chambers and Exchanges of Turkey to identify the OIC Arbitration Center
Muscat: The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), H. E. Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, praised the contribution of the Islamic Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (CICIA) and the actors of the sector in general in rebuilding the economies of the OIC Member States that have been severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
These statements were made through the Secretary-General, delivered on his behalf through the Under-Secretary-General for Economic Affairs, Dr. Ahmad Kawesa Sengendo, at the opening rite of the 38th CICIA General Assembly, held in Muscat, Sultanate. Oman, 17-18 July 2022. The Secretary-General under pressure that the deteriorating food security scenario in the world, which is joined by many OIC Member States, especially the least developed, has led to famine and a pressing need for food aid. He explained under pressure the importance of implementing OIC programs for the cultivation of the 3 strategic commodities, namely wheat, rice and cassava, and the status quo of food reserves at the national and regional levels.
IL. Hissein Taha praised the projects of CICIA and the Union of Commodity Chambers and Exchanges of Turkey to identify the OIC Arbitration Center; and the creation of the “Family Bank” that will provide opportunities for monetary inclusion to the populations of the five countries of the Sahel region. He thanked the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the financing of the Family Bank and expressed the hope that the Family Bank style will be extended to other less evolved OIC member states.
The Secretary-General also suggested that Chambers of Commerce and all personal sector actors in OIC Member States participate in the upcoming OIC Investment Forum in Africa and the OIC Private Sector Forum to be held later this year.
CICIA is a key driving force for mobilizing investments, formulating economic policies and launching projects for the advancement of the personal sector through the Chambers of Commerce of the OIC Member States.
