COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine’s COVID-19 moment came back negative Thursday night.
DeWine tested positive for the new coronavirus on Thursday morning, a quick checkup. The verification was part of the protocol for welcoming President Donald Trump to the runway at Cleveland’s Burke Lakefront Airport.
DeWine then returned to Columbus and took a second COVID-19 test from Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center. That polymerase chain reaction or PCR test came back negative late Thursday night.
The first girl, Fran DeWine, and the members also tested negative.
The first check is an antigen check. At that point, check a PCR test, which examines the express genetic appearance of the virus. It is known to be more delicate and precise.

THE PCR tests for the governor, the first girl and were conducted twice and tested negative on both occasions. They were carried out on two other diagnostic platforms.
“We are confident in the effects of Wexner Medical Center,” DeWine said in a statement. “This is the same PCR that has been used more than 1.6 million times in Ohio through hospitals and labs across the state.”
Antigenic or immediate testing is still widespread in Ohio. DeWine announced Tuesday that Ohio will soon get 500,000 quick tests in collaboration with five other states.
“We will work with the manufacturer to better perceive how the discrepancy between those two tests may have occurred,” DeWine said in the statement.
Mike and Fran DeWine plan to get a PCR test on Saturday, as a precaution and under the direction of doctors. These effects shall be published.
DeWine had planned to remain quarantined for 14 days at his home in Cedarville. He already maintains a small circle of contacts in person: his wife, Deputy Governor Jon Husted, workers’ law enforcement and some members.
“Anyway, I spend many days here,” DeWine said through the video convention from his home porch. “I’m on the phone a lot. I’m at a convention a lot.”
DeWine is the first governor to test positive for COVID-19. Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt announced that he had the disease several weeks ago. Last month, DeWine’s director of state prisons, Annette Chambers-Smith, announced that she had tested positive for COVID-19 after experiencing mild symptoms.
DeWine took some of the first competitive steps to fight COVID-19 in his state, one of the first five governors to close bars, restaurants and wineries in March.
In the early months of the pandemic, Ohio reported it as one of the first successes. The state gradually lifted its order to stay at home in May and June and saw a plateau in the recently reported cases, as well as a minimisation in hospitalizations.
In recent weeks, however, instances have begun to increase, and the state has reported more than 1,000 new instances consistent with the day for the July high.
“We’re going the wrong way,” Dewine said of the uptick in cases to NBC’s Meet the Press last month.
“We are at a very important stage. We’re at the point where we could limit ourselves to Florida,” he said, issuing a statewide masking order last July.
