Bangalore: At least 56 other people working as assistants at Bangalore’s Victoria Government Hospital staged a protest near Block “C” on Wednesday, claiming they had been “illegally” fired from their jobs.
Many of those assistants, who are contractors, have been working for 10 to 25 years, some for nearly 30 years. They have even been a very important component of hospital wards during the Covid-19 pandemic, said Maitreyi Krishnan, a lawyer and member. of the state committee of the Central Council of Trade Unions of India (AICCTU), which represented the perspectives of fitness workers.
Dr Deepak S, medical superintendent at Victoria Hospital, said the obligation to contract such contracts had been outsourced to a company and that the previous contract under which they were contracted had ended almost two months ago.
However, Maitreyi said: “These workers have been informed that their contract has changed, but there is nothing on paper. There is also no previous data. “
A hard-working official who saw the protest discovered that the new company had refused to hire staff hired through the old company.
“The workers also said they had earned their wages in the last two months. We have already informed the hospital that it is their duty to carry out a classification,” he said.
The hospital management will hold an assembly on Thursday with the workers, the industrial union, the company and the social and labour services.
