Novak Djokovic, who is not vaccinated against COVID-19, has called on the United States to enter the country so he can participate in tournaments in Florida and California.
The top-ranked Serbian tennis star to compete in Masters 1000 events, such as the Indian Wells tournament in California, which is scheduled to begin on March 6, and the Miami Open, which begins on March 20.
The Transportation Security Administration requires foreign air travelers to be fully vaccinated against the disease. That mandate will be in effect until at least mid-April, according to the TSA.
“Lately everything is ongoing,” Djokovic said Wednesday in Belgrade. “I’d rather be there.
“I’m grateful to the Indian Wells and Miami tournaments and the network for their public support, and they would love it if I could play in their tournaments. “
The 22-time Grand Slam champion was expelled from Australia ahead of the 2022 tournament but was allowed to play this year and earned the name by beating Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets.
When the update is lifted, Djokovic will be able to play at the US Open, starting at the end of August.
