The Norwegian government is the latest contributor to THE reaction of COVID-19 to A UN with a donation of 9.9 million Norwegian kroner (420 million nairas) from the Nigerian government.
The United Nations said in a set issued through the Norwegian Foreign Ministry and Nigeria’s federal government on Wednesday in Abuja.
They said the donation would strengthen aid for Nigeria’s multisectoral reaction plan to the COVID-19 pandemic and help the government continue its efforts to address critical pandemic disorders.
He quoted Norway’s ambassador to Nigeria, Jens-Petter Kjemprud, saying: “Global solidarity is our choice.
“The coronavirus pandemic is asking us to join forces for urgent action and coordinated efforts to mitigate its short- and long-term effects.
“Through the United Nations Joint Fund, Norway is partnering with Nigeria at this time of crisis to address the multifaceted nature of the pandemic and its unprecedented implications for the fitness system, as well as its socio-economic impacts.
According to the statement, Nigeria’s one-coVID-19 reaction reflects the United Nations’ national and inclusive reaction to COVID-19 through a shared vision and a non-unusual strategy.
“Its purpose is to coordinate and align the efforts of the United Nations and to leverage partnerships with the government, progression partners, foundations and CSOs, as the personal sector.
“It will leverage the partnership to increase the availability, accessibility, affordability, adaptability and acceptability of COVID-19’s reaction in Nigeria.”
He also quoted Edward Kallon, United Nations Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, saying: “The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic demands global solidarity in times of crisis.
“The UN appreciates the Norwegian government’s monetary contribution to Nigeria’s One UN COVID-19 response.
“This will make efforts not only to accentuate the aptitude reaction that opposes COVID-19, but also to the Nigerian government’s socio-economic interventions for vulnerable populations, adding water, sanitation, hygiene and interventions to combat food insecurity.”
The UNDP-administered Canasta One COVID-19 Fund aims at Nigeria’s crisis response and control through socio-economic research and proactive recovery and social coverage interventions targeting the poorest and most vulnerable groups.
The United Nations, in collaboration with the federal government, presented the UN COVID-19 Joint Response Fund on 6 April 2020.
The Basket Fund serves as a One COVID-19 financing and investment platform through which various stakeholders can channel their money into the multisectoral efforts of the Presidential Working Group on COVID-19 Response.
The overall control of the UN COVID-19 Common Response Fund is directed and coordinated through the Project Council.
The assignment committee is represented through the group of presidential candidates; Ministry of Health, Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), relevant departments, donor donors and the UN.
