Northern Israel was rocked by a mild earthquake on Wednesday, the newest in a series of tremors in the country in recent months.

The last major earthquake to hit the region occurred in 1927, a magnitude 6. 2 tremor that killed another 500 people and injured 700 others.
Experts on the subject say Israel reports a devastating earthquake every hundred years and have warned that such a disastrous event is only a matter of time.
Wednesday’s quake struck near the town of Tzfat, which devastated through an 1837 earthquake that triggered a landslide that killed thousands of citizens and destroyed most of the city.
Shuki Ohana, mayor of the northern city of Tzfat, warned in January that the earthquakes are “another reminder of the wonderful danger knocking on our door. it has a more wonderful challenge, one that can leave more destruction and devastation than any other war: a strong earthquake.
