North Texas among the 16 sites decided for a new clinical trial to verify promising COVID-19 treatment

DALLAS – The Dallas Domain is one of 16 sites in the world chosen for a new large-scale clinical trial to verify a promising remedy for COVID-19.

And this test hopes to prevent other people diagnosed with coronavirus from having to go to the hospital.

One thing that makes this test unique is that participants never want to leave their homes to find a possible cure for COVID-19.

“We have an examination of an oral, safe and inexpensive drug that has existed for 2000 years,” said Dr. Jean-Claude Tardif, cardiologist at the Montreal Heart Institute.

And he believes that a drug recently shown to focus on survivors of an attack can prevent others from being hospitalized or dying of coronavirus.

“Testing speculation that cutting inflammation before it is established in COVID-19 patients will reduce the need for hospitalization,” Dr. Tardif said.

The drug, called colchicine, has been used for thousands of years to treat gout, which is a painful inflammation of the toe.

“Other intelligent people found out that the big toe was swollen, they didn’t know it was called a drop. When they chewed this flower, the inflammation disappeared,” Dr. Tardif explained.

He believes this will be useful for other people with COVID-19 because the main explanation for why other people are hospitalized is due to inflammation.

“It’s patients’ own white blood cells that cause the pain that leads to hospitalization,” he said.

It is carried out in 11 regions of the United States, as well as in 3 other countries.

Dr. Mark Casanova, president of the Dallas County Medical Society, said Dallas is a prime location for COVID-19 trials.

“Researchers will look for spaces with a higher concentration of cases, other people and fitness infrastructure,” he said.

Dr. Tardif said that if many other people participated in the trial, the affordable remedy could be available to the masses in a short time.

To participate, you must have recently been diagnosed with COVID-19 and over 40 years of age.

The drug or placebo will be sent to your home.

The trial lasts 30 days.
