A new initiative was launched to harness the strength of social media for businesses in the northeast in the face of the coronavirus crisis.
The North-East Now initiative of the Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce promotes businesses large and small in the region that have been affected by lockout measures.
As a component of this ongoing campaign, an Energy Week is scheduled for Monday, September 7, which will allow companies to expose themselves to social media and let everyone know that the Northeast is open for business.
The Press and Journal, Evening Express, Society, and Original 106 social media accounts will retwite any company that uses #northeastisopen for seven days.
Since its launch in June, the North-East Now crusade has amassed a variety of information, directories and blogs to help others become more informed about local businesses operating the pandemic.
It simplified local businesses for others in a wide variety of industries, adding retail, hospitality, fashion and wellness.
The North-East Now team is urging the public to help the next Power Week campaign, which runs through Sunday, September 13.
Russell Borthwick, managing director of the Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce, said: “The centre provides data on local products that are lately found in retail stores and supermarkets, greatly simplifying the selection of North-East brands in its weekly store.
“There are also sections on local businesses and those that sell local origin in the food and beverage, retail, wellness, lifestyle, fashion and beauty sectors, etc.
“It refers to a wide diversity of directories and highlights individual corporations that do wonderful things by sharing news articles, blogs and inspiring stories from across the region, encouraging others to think about tactics for locals in the coming weeks and months.
“We just added a new segment” Local Company “to take over business-to-business services, as many corporations have applied to participate. That’s why we’ve created a platform committed to doing so.
“The entire site is designed to direct others to existing resources, not to compete with them. It’s about sharing data and making it easier for other local people.”
“We want to hear from the companies or teams in the region to whom to contribute.”
The Power Week crusade takes place during the Northeast Power Hour in June.
GALERIA: Companies participate in ‘Power Hour’ and shout that the Northeast is open
The Twitter Press and Journal Evening Express, Society and Original 106 accounts retwed each and every tweet posted through corporations in less than an hour in an effort to publicize as many as possible.
A total of 69 companies participated, and the hashtag #northeastisopen is also elegant in the UK.

Mr Borthwick added: “The effect of the recent closure of the city of Aberdeen has been felt through a large number of local businesses, many of which operated in spaces other than those directly affected by the restrictions.
“While the hotel sector in general has been the most affected, due to its forced closure, the consequences of these restrictions have affected small manufacturers that suffer from them.
“This has led to a significant drop in retail support and sales throughout the region, as well as a measurable effect on advance bookings in the accommodation sector, not only in Aberdeen but also in Aberdeenshire.
“We tried the water in June with a Power Hour that saw the region dominate social media and succeed in the coveted top spot on Twitter, sending a very strong message that the north-east of Scotland is open to business.
“It was a clever start and we had begun to see an increase in traffic and a resurgence in the region before this new setback. While many corporations are on edge, it is vital that we regain this momentum safely and quickly.
“We’re going to launch Power Week to percentage stories about the amazing companies we have here on our doorstep and we need to send a positive message about the fact that the Northeast is safe and able to do business.
“The hope is that North-East Now Power Week will inform, motivate and motivate others to do just that.”
The initiative is also supported by Hampton, Aberdeen Journals, Original 106 and VisitAberdeenshire.
