Noah Lyles’ adventure towards the Paris 2024 Olympic Games is over.
The athlete announced on Instagram that he would withdraw from the festival on other occasions after placing third in the men’s 200-meter final on Thursday, August 8. Lyles, 27, competed in Thursday’s race just two days after being diagnosed with COVID-19 and had to be escorted out. leaving the track in a wheelchair.
“First of all, I need to thank God for assisting me via all those Olympics!Secondly, I need to congratulate @tebogo_letsile_, @kenny_bednarek and everyone for this incredible Olympic 200m final,” Lyles captioned a photo of himself Thursday’s race. He congratulated Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo, who won gold, and fellow track and box athlete from the US team Kenny Bednarek, who won silver.
“Finally, I need to thank everyone for the messages of support. This will be the end of my 2024 Olympics. It’s not the Olympics [sic] I dreamed of, but it left a lot of joy in my heart,” Lyles continued.
“I hope you all enjoyed the show. Whether you’re for me or against me, you have to admit you’ve been watching it, right?” he concluded.
Before retiring from competition, Lyles hoped to compete in the men’s 4×100 relay final on Friday, August 9.
Lyle, who won the men’s 100-meter final on Sunday (Aug. 4), told NBC News that his COVID diagnosis “definitely affected my performance. “

“But I mean, to be honest, I’m more proud of myself than anything that can happen and I get the bronze medal with COVID in 3 days. It’s been a crazy Olympics,” he said.
Lyles said he deliberately hid his diagnosis from his fellow competitors, telling NBC News, “We wanted to keep this as close to the chest as possible. You never need to tell your competition something so sick. Why would you give them a credit over you?»
