ISTANBUL (Reuters) – No Turkish hospital is operating at full capacity due to the coronavirus pandemic, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said Thursday after Reuters cited doctors, as some committed intensive care sets (ICU) were complete.
“There are no cities, not even a hospital for singles, operating at full capacity due to COVID-19. The claims are unfounded,” Koca said on Twitter.
Doctors at the coronavirus hot spots, which they added to Ankara and the southeastern city of Gaziantep, told Reuters that hospitals are logging more than the official national count reflects, with some extensive care sets and emergency rooms across capacity.
Official figures mean that the virus killed another 5,784 people and set 236,112 on fire in Turkey, 93% of whom recovered. The Department of Health reported 1,178 new cases on Wednesday.
