Recent developments:
Ottawa entered high-risk territory in late August. Six months later, the risks remain elevated.
Ottawa Public Health’s (OPH) Weekly Breathing Update is broadly stable, whether you dig into COVID-19, flu, or RSV.
This means that flu grades are still higher than those of COVID and RSV, adding up to very high effects on wastewater and new hospitalizations.
Experts recommend that people cough, wear masks, keep their hands and high-touch surfaces clean, stay home when sick, and get COVID and flu shots for themselves and the vulnerable.
As mentioned, OPH says the city’s health care services remain at the highest risk for respiratory illnesses. This is the case in December, January and February, he says, and will be until respiratory trends return to low.
Spread
Ottawa’s coronavirus-related wastewater had been solid for about two weeks as of Feb. 26.
OPH stated that this is moderate.
The city’s average weekly positivity rate is solid, nine percent, which is low for OPH.
Hospitalizations, Outbreaks, Vaccines, and Deaths
The average number of Ottawans in COVID-19 hospitals has held steady at 29 over the past week.
A broader separate count, which includes patients who underwent COVID testing after being admitted for other reasons, who were admitted for lingering COVID complications, or who were transferred from other fitness units, dropped to its lowest count since August.
OPH is that the number of new COVID-related hospitalizations in the city (21) will return to moderate.
The number of active COVID outbreaks has dropped to nine. There are several new outbreaks.
The gym has reported 83 additional COVID cases and three additional COVID deaths in the past week.
OPH’s next update on COVID vaccination will be next week.
After about 4 years, OPH has announced that it will also be ending its COVID-specific panel after this week. Much of the data is now reflected in OPH’s breathing updates. OPH stated that the open knowledge of COVID will continue to be up-to-date and the knowledge panel will be archived.
The Kingston Region Health Unit says we are also in the midst of an era of maximum threat to respiratory diseases. Their flu, COVID-19, and RSV charts are all solid and usually low or moderate.
The Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU) Global Assessment assesses overall breathing as moderate and stable.
The Hastings Prince Edward (HPE) Department of Public Health, like Ottawa, provides a weekly average of COVID cases in hospitals. This number increases at 17. La influenza activity is considered low.
Those in Renfrew County are stable.
Western Quebec is down to 25 hospitalized patients who have been tested for COVID. The province reported 3 more COVID deaths.
The counties of Leeds, Grenville and Lanark (LGL) recorded two more COVID deaths, according to their fitness unit. The EOHU has pointed out one more.
Awareness of LGL dates back to Feb. 18, when its trends were downward.
