“There were no disruptions in the RGL. No notification was received from the RGL,” said Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, who is the Director General of Health.
Malaysia and Singapore reached an agreement in July to bring into force the LGL and the Periodic Switching Agreement (PCA) with a specific implementation to meet the wishes of other cross-border passenger teams between the two countries.
The GLR allows the crossing of borders between the two countries for a mandatory announcement and for official purposes.
However, Noor Hisham showed that a Malaysian travelling between countries had tested positive for Covid-19 and in quarantine in Singapore.
According to him, the Ministry of Health won a notification from Singapore that the 53-year-old man, who enjoys prestige as a permanent resident of the republic, had tested positive on 29 August after his return to Singapore on 17 August.
During today’s press convention in Putrajaya, Noor Hisham also reiterated the ministry’s fear of a imaginable accumulation in the number of positive cases in Covid-19 due to the arrival of winter in other parts of the world.
He said the countries of America, Europe and Southeast Asia are experiencing a build-up of cases, which has increased fear as the countries of the northern hemisphere will soon face winter.
“More worrying is that respiratory tract infections, in addition to lung infections, are reported more in winter compared to other seasons. And this scenario is troubling because many of the recently reported Covid-19 cases in Malaysia are imported cases that have been inflamed abroad,” Noor Hisham explained.
”Infection has increased”
According to the most sensible official, they have also found that the rate of Covid-19 contagion in the country is higher than Rt1.0
“Rt” is the measure of the rate of spread of the coronavirus.According to one that monitors the rate of Covid-19 infection online in the United States, Rt is the average number of other people inflamed by an infectious person.
“If Rt is above 1.0, the virus spreads quickly. When Rt is less than 1.0, the virus will prevent spread,” he said.
Noor Hisham told reporters that rt’s price for Malaysia was 0.74 on 26 August.
“However, it has gone to 1.0,” he said.
He said that was the explanation for why the country would have to continue its border control to prevent covid-19 from entering the country.
Noor Hisham said the Ministry of Health welcomed today’s announcement through Chief Minister Sabri Yaakob that the government must ban holders of long-term passes from the Philippines, India and Indonesia from 7 September.
The restriction includes people with permanent resident prestige (PR), the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) Program, expats, people with a business pass (PVP) and resident pass holders.
When asked about the desire to ban passholders, Noor Hisham said Malaysia will have to take proactive steps to deal with the pandemic.
He gave the example of Korea, which recorded 2,600 cases in 10 days, and India, which recorded more than 76,000 cases in 24 hours.
“So, with the fear we have now, where the instances continue to increase in the countries I mentioned earlier, what it is now is that we take precautions,” he said.
