Many know Nikko Remigio as a former UC Berkeley superstar athlete and Fresno State superstar. However, others may know him as a multi-instrumentalist musician or a calculating chess champion.
Remigio is a guy with masculine talents, and his football skills as a star receiver lightly scratch the surface of what he can do. The 23-year-old is a fifth-year student at Fresno State. He earned his bachelor of science degree políticas. de UC Berkeley in 2021.
Remigio and his two younger brothers grew up in an environment that fostered other hobbies such as sports, music, and chess. Nikko’s father, Mark Remigio, said it was vital that each of his children gain other knowledge and learn new things.
With sports, Nikko’s mother, Jennifer Remigio, and Mark made sure their son could place his position anywhere he was active. He has been involved in football, baseball, soccer, basketball, rugby, jiu jitsu, kickboxing, surfing, snowboarding, track and field and sports. other sports.
“When they were younger, we tried to maximize everything and tried to instill as many teams as possible while still being flexible,” Mark said.
Nikko was betting on football at the age of 4. Sport served a more vital purpose. They taught him various life skills, adding teamwork, discipline, hard work, and perseverance. Exposure to those other sports and activities allowed him to develop his core values from an early age.
Jennifer said he has retained the ability to be attracted to other people and that other people are attracted to him. Sports and other activities allowed him to bond and interact with his peers in an “authentic” way, he said.
The “warrior culture” of soccer is what drove Remigio to pursue the sport, Mark said. Although athletics served more than just a system, Remigio’s boys were able to take advantage of their athletic talents to take them to higher education.
“My parents gave me instructions on how to do everything. Even when I got out of the way, they gave me the love and help I needed,” Nikko said.
Jennifer and Mark also felt pressured by the importance of their children being skilled in the arts. The children were able to learn to play the piano, guitar and drums through their father or YouTube videos. In school number one, children were even chess champions. the pursuit of interests has helped Nikko and his siblings overcome adversity in their lives.
Jennifer said that in addition to football, music could have been a domain in which Nikko would have succeeded and become stronger. He recalled that when Nikko was in seventh grade, he picked up the guitar and learned to play and sing like a talent. .
“He’s a very small singer, and we laughed at that. Like his variety of backgrounds, he loves all music,” Jennifer said.
Music and chess helped create Remigio’s skills to identify patterns and the ability to compartmentalize obstacles for the big picture. Remigio applied those skills wisely when he made the decision to move UC Berkeley to Fresno State in January 2022.
Jennifer emphasized the importance of this resolution to her son and encouraged him to write a list of pros and cons. He was able to evaluate the many reasons why Fresno State is a smart game for him.
“Involving him in so many things has helped him be open to demanding situations and difficulties and get out of his comfort zone,” Jennifer said.
Some of the most level-headed professionals on Nikko’s roster understood the dynamics of the Bulldogs team; the opportunity to play with head football coach Jeff Tedford and his coaching staff; and the fondness for the Red Wave. All combined made the selection a “no-brainer”.
“He’s been calculating, and his brainstorming procedure and ability to navigate the picture and get an explanation [has been helpful],” Mark said.
Nikko’s cultural background also played a role in his good fortune and ability to navigate life. Remigio is part Filipino, half black and one fourth white. His father said his varied background allowed him to resonate with and bring other people together.
“It’s a lovely thing to be informed and to know that you’re made up of such wonderful diversity and ethnicities and that you have so many wonderful traditions. It’s helping them interact with other people and with their own as well,” Jennifer said.
Nikko said that growing up, he felt something of an identity crisis when he discovered who he was and what his Array identity was. It was a first revelation of adversity in his life, but it could be located in his identity.
Nikko had the possibility of making a stopover in the Philippines before it was limited due to COVID-19. The opportunity to make a stopover in another country outside his home in Orange County gave him another perspective, Mark said.
“I think having to look for tactics to be sure of myself and not seeking anyone’s approval to be sure of myself and be who I am [impacted me]. It’s my makeup. It’s my mold. This is the style of who I am,” Nikko said.
Mark explained how incredibly proud he is of his son and his triumphs. She has placed many mantras in her children’s lives, one of which is “this is about adventure and not fate. “
During his time at Fresno State, Remigio earned several accolades by jumping over the warring parties and rushing for an 87-yard landing after receiving a kickoff kickback in the game against the University of Connecticut.
