Professor Ben Ayade, governor of Cross River State, said agriculture is one of the only genuine margins for prosperity, urging Cross River residents, especially women, to engage in agriculture.
The Governor spoke in Calabar when the distribution of inputs to farmers was halted as a component of the COVID-19 pandemic mitigation measures.
On the occasion also the Minister of Agriculture, Alhaji Sabo Nanono.
According to Ayade, his administration’s commitment to agriculture is an explanation for why state farmers gain benefits from a loan with an interest of 5%.
He said: “Let me take this opportunity to say very loudly and obviously that long-term prosperity belongs to farmers. If you don’t have a farm, you don’t have a business in the 21st century.”
“The post-Covid 19 pandemic has become very transparent and only farmers have the ability to do so, even if all the doors are closed, so I challenge everyone to own a farm and prove to me that their farm is working.
“Cross River State has made the agribusiness selection and the adventure of the project is so orgasmic and is organically connected with a type of syntax that allows you to enjoy the excitement of the profit stream that we have provided by getting a loan with an interest of 5%. for all farmers in The state of Cross River leaving the sum of N500m to the Cross River microfinance bank.
“Let me make it very clear that in my experience, when you give out a loan to go into agriculture, you’re safer than when you give that loan to a man.
“Because they are more dedicated, they are more committed, they are more consistent, they have firepower, they have integrity and honor, they have the skill, they have intellect and morality, they have everything that qualifies them to show coherence and commitment to purposes.”
He suggested the minister increase the federal government’s investment in women farmers to inspire them.
“I encourage women to feel merit from the Honourable Minister of Agriculture that interest-free loans are available. I also ask the honourable minister to increase the cash reserved for women from 35% to 50% so that he can be sure he will get his return,” he said.
