The Nigerian Boxing Federation (NBF) has again distanced itself from world boxing, with Azania Omo-Agege’s lawyer threatening legal action if it “stops its interference. “
In a disclaimer signed by the legal counsel of NBF vice president Omo-Agege, seen inside the games, it was claimed that Nigeria as the first African country to sign up for World Boxing is “inaccurate and misleading”.
They also warned World Boxing against any unauthorized use of the “name ‘Nigeria’, its flag or any other related to the nation of our clients. “
On Friday, World Boxing listed Nigeria among its latest members — and the first in Africa — along with Finland, Iceland, Jamaica, Norway and the Czech Republic.
However, Omo-Agege, acting president of the Confederation of African Boxing (AFBC), denied the allegations before confirming Nigeria’s “firm loyalty” to the International Boxing Association (IBA).
But World Boxing said a club application through the NBF had been “signed by all relevant senior officials within the Federation and backed up by a letter from the Nigerian National Olympic Committee”.
In response, Omo-Agege’s denial has now asked World Boxing to produce evidence of the letter.
“We hope that World Boxing will heed this warning and refrain from any further actions that could undermine the sovereignty of the NBF,” he said.
“Please note that any continuation of those considerations will require us to take legal action to protect NBF’s integrity and rights. “
The NBF also said its board of trustees had had the opportunity to meet to make a resolution “of such monumental importance. “
In June this year, SwissBoxing became the first national federation to oppose its resolution to register with World Boxing, leading to Anderegg’s resignation as president after 17 years, after some members complained that the decision leaving the IBA had been made without proper consultation. .
The war for the Nigerian club is expected to intensify in the coming days, as World Boxing has maintained its position since being contacted for comment.
“The petition was signed through all relevant senior officials within the Federation and backed up by a letter from the Nigerian National Olympic Committee calling on World Boxing ‘to kindly grant the Federation the popularity it deserves’ and proved that the Nigerian Boxing Federation is the only framework. found guilty of organizing boxing in Nigeria,” the statement read.
Africa is of wonderful importance to the IBA, which has been criticized, and to its Russian president, Umar Kremlev.
The IBA, which has been expelled from the Olympic movement, will hear its appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in November.
He also hopes for a quick solution with the AFBC led by Omo-Agege in connection with the congress of the continental framework to elect a new president.
Originally scheduled to take office in Durban this month, the AFBC will hold it on Nov. 18 in Africa.
However, the IBA needs the congress to be held in Dubai and has said it will cover the prices of the congress if it is held in Africa, causing tensions between the two.
The memberships are for the IBA and World Boxing as the game fights for its position at Los Angeles 2028.
