Ife’s Ooni, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, says the country will triumph over the COVID-19 pandemic.
The monarch said so by welcoming the Osun faithful to his palace as the ancient city celebrated the Osun Festival on Saturday.
Ogunwusi, who admitted that the pandemic continued to ravage the country, suggested Nigerians adhere to precautionary measures and avoid the dissemination of false information.
“Unlike what we used to do in Ife, we were forced to limit this birthday party which is a main festival in Ife.
“Our restriction has led us to not believe any more disruptions as we seek to fix what we are dealing with.
“The Osun Festival, as the world knows, is the water birthday party and we all know that water is life.
“We use this example to reconnect with our author through nature to cleanse the world and, in particular, to end the pandemic.
“We are our ancestors and it is unfair to call ourselves idol worshippers,” he said.
The Government of Osun represented on the occasion through Ms. Sola Duro-Ladipo, Director of Field Research, Festivals and Documentation, Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
Other dignitaries also honored the occasion, which was developed in accordance with the precautionary measures opposed to COVID-19.
