Nigeria to develop innovative interventions to improve coronavirus survival chances

Health Minister Dr. Osagie Ehanire said efforts are being made to extend cutting-edge interventions to the number of deaths consistent with COVID-19 to less than 1%.

Ehanire said this at the Presidential Working Group (TFP) briefing on COVID-19 on Monday in Abuja.

According to him, the mortality rate lately is 2%, especially for the elderly and those suffering from comorities.

Ehanire stated that TFP members were aligned with non-pharmaceutical interventions that played a key role in controlling new infections, as measures to use masks and crowds were easy, reasonable and effective.

He added that “we would make paintings with state governments to prepare for the domain and human resources needed in general hospitals or number one fitness centers to exercise and establish at least one pattern collection site in the local government domain in a timely manner, with Effective Pattern Recovery Logistics to deliver patterns to laboratories.

“As the cause of the disease becomes clearer, the Director-General of WHO warns that COVID-19 may be with us for a long time.”

“This means that we deserve to adapt to what has been described as the ‘new normal’, a way of life that aims to reduce the threat of infection, while allowing a meaningful economic life to resume and for citizens to repair their livelihoods.” Said.

The minister said there was need to sustain the efforts as the increase in testing capacity recorded 40,000 in one month, while the number of positive cases dropped by over 2,000.

“The total number of positive instances in COVID-19 recorded on July 17,457, of a total of 154,454 samples analysed, with a positivity rate of 11.3%, compared to the June rate of 19,149 positive instances of a total of 111,052 samples Positivity rate of 17.2%.

“By Aug. 3, we recorded 43,841 confirmed cases out of of 286,091 samples tested, while 20,308 persons were treated and discharged with 888 persons dead,” he said.

Ehanire announced that plans were underway to designate waiting rooms in general hospitals, with oxygen delivery facilities such as oxygen concentrators or oxygen cylinders.

“Some investments will be needed in this strategy, known in the state of Lagos as oxygen kiosks, but the advantages in stored lives will be significant,” he said.

Ehanire stated that the execution had responded to the request for reaction to COVID-19, in accordance with the President’s directive.

He is confident that there has been a non-stop construction and optimization of the diagnostic capacity of laboratories recently in the states of Zamfara, Kebbi, Yobe, Taraba, Gombe and Bayelsa.

The Minister stated that there was no fear among the fitness personnel about the non-public protective apparatus (PPE) because the appliance had been well equipped with fabrics and products and had supplied it to all sections of the country.

He said the government thanked the United Nations and the European Union for donating some other shipment of valuable supplies, which it won on 31 July.

“This additional delivery will increase our stock of pandemic resources and come with mask and goggles, airway tubes, bio hazard bags and protective boxes, verification kits,” he said.
