COVID-19 Vaccines

South Africa has distributed 38 million COVID-19 vaccines since the start of the pandemic. Some of those vaccines have been purchased through the government from corporations like Johnson.

Pfizer Sales

In 2022, pharmaceutical giant Pfizer’s sales reached a record $100 billion, more of which was generated through its Covid-19 vaccine and Paxlovid, an antiviral pill. Health Justice Initiative

Health Justice Initiative, an NGO in Cape Town, South Africa, sued the South African government in the High Court in Pretoria in February 2022 to make the documents public, after the government refused to disclose them under the Promotion of Access to Information Act.

Judge Anthony Millar ordered the government to disclose all procurement contracts and similar documents by Aug. 23, 2023. The government accepted all the documents on September 5.
