There’s no position Drake Maye would be in.
When the NFL invited the former North Carolina quarterback to attend the draft in Detroit, he received a quick response.

“I think you dream of coming here, crossing the level and being with the commissioner,” Maye said. “It’s something I couldn’t refuse. It was a no-brainer for me. “
It doesn’t feel the same way.
Only thirteen players chose to hold their big night in Motor City, marking a drop in the number of NFL Draft participants for the third year in a row.
Former Michigan quarterback J. J. McCarthy was among the first-round customers who opted to stay out Thursday night.
The draft held in Kansas City last year was attended by 17 players. Two years ago, in Las Vegas, 22 were on hand to hear their names.
With COVID-19 protocols in place 3 years ago in Cleveland, 12 school stars attended the draft during the pandemic.
The league offers guest players two first-class airfare and eight coaches’ airfare, as well as transportation to and from a hotel, where five rooms are provided. Players do not receive a league generation payment.
In the Green Room, located on the Detroit level, up to nine visitors can join players in white leather chairs and couches, while more theater tickets can also be purchased upon request.
McCarthy simply wanted to celebrate with more people.
He planned to be surrounded by 100 other people, including family, friends from Illinois, teammates and football program staff members, near the airport, which is halfway between Ann Arbor, Michigan, and the draft site.
“I didn’t need to go to Detroit because I know it took a whole town to get here, and I need to celebrate with them,” McCarthy told WXYZ-TV.
Although McCarthy wasn’t going to walk the red carpet, she planned to wear a traditional charcoal gray Alo Yoga outfit.
“I don’t like to be the center of attention,” he said, “but for one night I’m going to do it. “
