HONORING HEROES
Like so many things this year, the queen’s birthday honors list, to be published in June, has been delayed due to the impact of the coronavirus, but this time for a positive reason.
The list of winners will be released on Friday night after being postponed to allow appointments from others who played a role in the early months of the pandemic.
This means that this year’s list will be governed by frontline workers, adding doctors, nurses, fundraisers and volunteers who mobilized as the crisis spread in the spring.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson said: “As we all redouble our efforts to control the virus, protect the NHS and save lives this winter, I am pleased that we have the opportunity to recognize those who have already given this country so much. The coronavirus pandemic is the greatest physical challenge of our lives. We will all have to do our part, but the dedication, courage and compassion of those recipients, whether they are on the front line or in their communities to supply the most vulnerable, are an inspiration to all of us.
“We owe them a debt of gratitude and the Queen 2020’s birthday honors will be the first of many when we can thank them as a nation. “
FEAR OF FLOODING
On Thursday, a long-awaited flood summit will nevertheless take a position between South Yorkshire leaders and government officials, but it is regrettable that the discussion is limited to only one component of the region.
Central Barnsley MP and Sheffield city mayor Dan Jarvis have been convening the assembly for 11 months after more than 1,000 homes and 564 businesses in South Yorkshire were affected by flooding, adding Fishlake and Bentley near Doncaster.
In February this year, Environment Secretary George Eustice pledged to hold a summit in Yorkshire to discuss the chaos caused in parts of the region by repeated flooding.
Parts of Yorkshire have been flooded in recent years, adding Calderdale, Leeds, Doncaster, York and East Cowick, and local MPs told Parliament last week that they were not satisfied with the limited scope of Thursday’s meeting.
THE DUKE’S CLIMATE
Prince William will express his views on climate change this week as an ITV documentary airs tonight and will participate in a virtual roundtable to be broadcast on YouTube on Saturday.
The Duke of Cambridge is asking humanity to “accelerate the pace” of its reaction to climate change and to fight the planet’s growing environmental risk on tonight’s show, Prince William: A Planet for All of Us.
He has shot the ITV documentary during the two years in the UK and in countries such as Pakistan and Tanzania.
On Saturday afternoon, he will participate in a TED climate replacement convention that will be broadcast live on YouTube.
Conference
The Conservative Party convention must take a stand in Birmingham in front of Conservative MPs and MPs, but now it is practically taking a stand.
On Tuesday he will deliver speeches through Chancellor Rishi Sunak and Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
There is also the intriguing promise of “home discussions” with Education Secretary Gavin Williamson, Secretary of Affairs Alok Sharma and Health Secretary Matt Hancock at the event.
