The newest variant of Covid-19, “JN. 1”, has been officially detected in several cases in Oman, although cases have been mild.
Countries across the globe might have completely moved on from the Covid-19 pandemic in recent years, but that doesn’t mean that the virus has gone away.
This week, the newest variant of Covid-19, dubbed “JN. 1,” was officially detected in several cases in Oman, according to a report by The Times of Oman that mentions a senior official at the Ministry of Fitness.
However, the official told the newspaper that Covid-19 patients had shown symptoms and all had recovered.
“The Sultanate of Oman takes all necessary surveillance and prevention measures throughout the year. The global spread of the new variant of Covid-19 JN.1 does not pose a significant risk to public health,” the official added.
The world is closely following JN. 1
Last month, the U. S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released a report on the U. S. Department of Disease Control and Prevention. The U. S. Department of Health announced that JN. 1 accounted for 44% of all Covid-19 cases in the U. S. U. S.
On Dec. 18, the World Health Organization designated JN. 1 as the newest “variant of interest,” it has genetic modifications that may give it merit, and its prevalence is expanding globally.
“Based on the available, albeit limited, evidence, the additional public health threat posed by JN. 1 is ultimately considered low globally. This variant is expected to possibly cause a backlog of SARS-CoV-2 cases amid an increase in infections from other viral and bacterial infections, specifically in countries entering the winter season,” the WHO said in a statement.
