The Chamber of Deputies yesterday approved the extension of the era of the state of emergency for forty-five days, after President Luis Abinader filed the application on Wednesday 26 this month.
The petition, which will enter into force on 3 September, is expected to end on 18 October.
The Senate approved it last Wednesday and will now have to be enacted by the Executive for its early implementation.
This request for an extension is Abinader’s first since he assumed the presidency of the Republic on 16 August. Former President Danilo Medina for a state of emergency at the National Congress in July.
This is the time when such a state of emergency has been required. The first, also for forty-five days, ordered on Wednesday, July 15.
The request of the Executive Branch submitted in the midst of the transition from the command movement of the government of Medina to that of Luis Abinader, winner of the elections of the 5th of July, with five.52% of the electorate.
The first state of emergency declared on 19 March this year lasted only 25 days, then twice for 17, one by 15; The last one lasted 12 days.
In a state of emergency, the Government acquires special powers and to face an immediate risk to the country where justified.
These special powers come with the provision of restrictions, for the time being, on freedom of movement, arrangement and gathering of people.
All these measures are taken through the State and are carried out to continue the fight opposed to COVID-19. The virus has inflamed another 93,390 people in the country, killing 1,648 inflamed people, according to yesterday’s most recent Ministry of Public Health report.
Under these citizenship-restrictive forces, the Executive Branch headed by Medina decreed on August 8 the extension of the curfew “reviewable through the new government that will take over on August 16, 2020”.
According to statements made this week through President Luis Abinader, the government will take all steps to reduce the spread of the coronavirus, ensuring that existing movements are maintained as, in recent days, the spread of the virus has decreased.
“And that’s why in this balance, between fitness first and also the other activities, the contagion curve has already gone down, we’re going to put up with it this way,” he said at a press conference at the National Palace.
Existing curfew applies Monday through Friday from 7 p.m. five a.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from five p.m. at five o’clock in the morning in the following geographical areas: Santo Domingo, Distrito Nacional, Santiago, San Cristóbal, La Vega, Puerto Plos angelesta, Duarte, San Pedro de Macorus, La Romana, San Juan de los Angeles Maguana, La Altagracia, Azua, Monsignor Nouel, Rama Sanchezrez and Maria Sanchez Trinidad.
For its part, a geographical demarcation has the schedule of 8:00 at night to 5:00 am for Espaillat, Peravia, Barahona, Monte Plata, Valverde, Hermanas Mirabal, Monte Cristi, Saman, Bahoruco, Hato Mayor, El Seibo, Dajabón, Santiago Rodríguez, San José de Ocoa, Elas Pia, Independencia and Pedernales.
