New national blockade ruled in Poland despite COVID-19 case build-up

WARSAW (Reuters) – Poland reported on Friday 809 new cases of COVID-19, the sixth record accumulated in two weeks, but Deputy Prime Minister Jacek Sasin ruled a new national blockade.

According to the Ministry of Health’s Twitter account, the maximum instances occurred in and around major cities, adding the capital, Warsaw, Katowice and Krakow.

He said 259 of the new infections were in the coal mining region of Silesia, where the main city is Katowice.

As of Friday, 1,279 coal miners were infected, basically at the PGG state-sponsored coal manufacturer, according to the knowledge cited through the state news agency PAP.

The build-up of new infections was faster and higher than expected through Health Minister Lukasz Szumowski on Thursday when he saw the daily count go up to 700 and after the weekend.

The conservative nationalist government has imposed stricter fitness regulations in several Polish counties, which come with an obligation to dress in an outdoor protective mask.

It banned conferences, sporting events and concerts, closed cinemas and gymnasiums, and imposed a limit of 50 more people on the number of people attending weddings, churches and hotels that remain open.

But Sasin told state television before the most recent figures were announced: “There’s no way we’re going to impose a general blockade again. “

“Today there is no doubt, with the growing number of other people inflamed or most of those who are still inflamed, to return to the close of the economy,” he said.

Poland reported a total of 50,324 COVID-19 and 1,787 deaths.

Critics said the government is not wearing down large-scale fitness checks, which means many other inflamed people don’t know and infect others.
