SANTA FE, N. M. – Roger Montoya, a Democratic candidate in an open career for the New Mexico House of Representatives, declared his participation in two pornographic films in him as a student.
He said he was not proud of it, but believes that joy has helped him better perceive exploitation and the desire to provide opportunities for young people.
The revelation about Montoya de Velarde came when the nationally identified art educator is running in a vast rural legislative district with maximum poverty rates stretching from Hispaniola to the edge of the state of Colorado.
“I’m not proud of this selection because I was young and naive, yet those reports helped me perceive the exploitation faced by other young people,” Montoya said in a long social media post.
Contacted by telephone, Montoya said he continued to target the political race and the solution of educational and economic inequality.
“Really for me at 60, this race is about the disorders of the day,” he said. “I am pleased to communicate about inequalities in education, for water infrastructure . . . health care at the time of COVID. “
The state Republican Party on Monday asked Montoya to withdraw from the race opposed to Republican candidate Justin Salazar-Torrez d’Espanola. Montoya beyond the paintings in pornography was first reported through the conservative blog Pion Post overseen through John Block.
“While many academics find college economically difficult, very few this path to solving their problems,” the party said in a statement. “This kind of reckless and deced behavior is unacceptable. “
Senior Democrats, in addition to federal Rep. Debra Haaland and House President Brian Egolf, joined Montoya, who accused the Republican Party of hypocrisy, pointing to President Donald Trump’s remedy for women and control of the coronavirus pandemic.
Last year, CNN identified Montoya as a netpaintings hero in a segment of his paintings as a co-founder of a local youth center that teaches art, music and dance classes. Montoya has also organized an HIV organization in Spain and has been actively involved in efforts to end the city’s sponsorship of an annual tribute to a Spanish conquistador vilified through many local Native Americans.
In his writings on social media, Montoya said his resolve to participate in pornographic films took place at the age of 22 while conducting independently at the University of Los Angeles.
“Among those options, there were two adult films in which I acted as an adult, with other adults, in a very different environment and time,” he wrote. “These reports do not reflect who I am, and are insignificant in the scope of my life’s paintings, yet they have helped motivate my determination toward my networked paintings and the paintings I make to make sure young people have opportunities and confidence. “
The president of the State Republican Party, Steve Pearce, warned of Montoya’s behavior.
“Playing in gay porn movies, whether now or years ago, is not suitable for any candidate or elected official,” Pearce said in a statement. “New Mexico cares about its strong classical values and Montoya leaves the race immediately.
