NEW YORK, March 01, 2024–(BUSINESS WIRE)–New Fortress Energy, Inc. (Nasdaq: NFE) (“NFE” or the “Company”) today announced that its Terminal Gas Sul (“TGS”) LNG terminal located in Santa Catarina, Brazil, is now operational with the Energos Winter Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) on-site.
TGS is an offshore LNG import terminal with a capacity of approximately 6 MTPA (300 TBtu) and an emission of 500 mmscf/day. The terminal includes the FSRU Winter and a 33-kilometer, 20-inch pipeline that connects the facility to the existing national pipeline Transportadora Brasileira Gasoduto Bolívia-Brasil (“TBG”).
TGS is a unique and promising prospect for NFE, as it presents a significant expansion opportunity for the company in the Brazilian energy and fuel markets. The terminal is connected via a pipeline to the Brazilian fuel market as a whole, comprising more than 3. 5 GW of non-profit electric power from long-term corporate fuel source contracts and more than three hundred TBtu of commercial and residential fuel consumers in Brazil’s southern region.
Demand for electric power and fuel is expected to increase significantly, while the main historical source of fuel supply, Bolivia, has declined and is expected to decline further in the near term. The TGS terminal is critical infrastructure and will play an important role in meeting the region’s electric power and fuel needs.
“TGS is connected to more than 3. 5 GW of existing electric power infrastructure that does not have corporate supply agreements, making the terminal a key asset in Brazil’s evolving energy landscape. With many new energy projects needed to balance the Brazilian grid in the near term, NFE is prepared to meet growing demands by leveraging its vertically built portfolio of LNG assets and expertise,” said Wes EdensArray, president and CEO of New Fortress Energy.
