New Dining Spot Opens at Old Perkins in Appalachian

A new dining spot will open soon in the former Perkins Restaurant and Bakery in Apalachin.

The Perkins operation on Highway 434 opened in July 2017 in a newly constructed construction adjacent to a Comfort Inn. The place to eat closed in October 2021.

Beth Ann Smith, a Georgia-based woman who operated the Perkins site, didn’t know why the position went bankrupt just four years after it launched.

Efforts to sell the 4,800-square-foot building to Appalachian had failed for a few years.

A real estate directory said the restaurant’s kitchen and appliances charged $529,000 when they were installed. An auction announcement asked for a bid of $200,000.

Despite everything, the asset was sold this summer. People familiar with the transaction knew the client as Bob Stanley of St. John’s, Louis, Missouri.

Renovation work on the former Perkins restaurant began last month. Efforts to contact Stanley for information about his business plans were unsuccessful.

The future restaurant will be called “Chef Stanley’s. ” It is expected to offer a menu that includes seafood, steaks and pastas.

Those working on the building’s renovation said the new restaurant is expected to open by the end of the month.
