More than a dozen citizens and several at a state residential facility for veterans have tested positive for COVID-19, according to Secretary of State for Veterans Services Jon Santiago.
Fifteen citizens and nine staff members at Chelsea’s veterans home have tested positive since the first case was reported last Wednesday, according to a statement from Santiago.
“I wish those inflamed a speedy recovery and would like to express my gratitude to all who run for the protection and well-being of our citizens and staff,” he said.
On Friday, the state’s public fitness branch deployed its immediate reaction team to help at the veterans’ home.
“The staff at the Chelsea Veterans Home is committed to providing an environment for our citizens and staff,” said Robert Engell, interim superintendent of the Home. “We ensure that all communication channels remain transparent and available between our staff and stakeholders and will continue to monitor the situation. “
The facility experienced a fatal outbreak of COVID early in the pandemic, in which 31 citizens died.
