Manila’s casinos may have been closed since March due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but intrepid Americans who knew who was passing quarantine checkpoints had the opportunity to go to the Philippine Casino in Los Angeles City. In other words, until the physical site, controlled through the Philippine Gambling and Diversion Corporation (PAGCOR), has to close on July 17 due to 3 positive coronavirus tests among its staff.
Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr. told the media that PAGCOR had ordered the closure, the Investigator reports. Andrea Domingo, president of the casino regulator/operator, noted that the casino is being disinfected lately.
As noted, an attempt to search for touches is underway. Those who were in close contact with the workers would have been known and isolated, with continuous evidence.
The Filipino casino has been allowed to continue its activities, as it is outside the quarantine of the general network that lately maintains the closure of Manila’s casinos. Angeles City reported four2 of the Covid-19s in total, with only four deaths.
The casino is one of many operations managed by pagCOR that was allowed to reopen at the end of June amid reports that revenue had already declined in the first quarter of the year, and the effects are expected to worsen in the quarter.
But if the country’s casino industry recovers, Manila’s beach resorts will have to, and there’s still no genuine concept of when that will happen. In mid-July, President Duterte announced that Manila’s quarantine would continue at least until the end of the month, keeping the casinos closed.
At the time, there were 36,260 active cases of the disease, the maximum of which were in Manila. This number has continued to increase, now reaching 43,991 active instances, or 68,898 since the start of the pandemic.
The Ministry of Health (DOH) recorded 1,521 new coronaviruses on Monday (July 20). The total number of recent deaths in 68,898.4 new deaths has been recorded, with the total number of deaths now at 1,835. 607 new patients have recovered from the virus, with an overall recovery of 23,072. pic.twitter.com/B8RXln8W9H
Unable to achieve a flattened curve like Macau, PAGCOR, and the Philippine government’s resolution makers would possibly be forced to choose: keep casinos closed to people or follow the example of the U.S. casino industry: open up and see what happens.
