MADRID
NATO on Wednesday officially invited members of the army alliance to Finland and Sweden.
The announcement made as part of the Declaration of the Madrid Summit following the meeting of NATO Heads of State and Government.
“Today we invite Finland and Sweden to become members of NATO and agree to sign the accession protocols,” the NATO members said. “In any Alliance club, it is of great importance that the valid security considerations of all Allies be duly taken into account. “
He “welcomed the conclusion of the trilateral memorandum” between Turkey, Finland and Sweden.
Turkey, Finland and Sweden on Tuesday signed a memorandum on the Nordic countries’ bids for the NATO club following the quadripartite talks in Madrid.
The signed memorandum addresses Turkey’s considerations on arms exports and the fight against terrorism.
Sweden and Finland officially implemented the signing of the alliance last month, a move motivated by Russia’s war against Ukraine.
But Türkiye, a longtime member of the alliance, has voiced objections to the club’s offers, criticizing countries for tolerating and even supporting terrorist groups.
Stoltenberg has continuously stated that Turkey has “legitimate considerations similar to its fight against the PKK terrorist organization and other organizations” and that the PKK is a terrorist organization through NATO, the EU, Finland and Sweden.
During its more than 35-year terror crusade against Turkey, the PKK has been guilty of the deaths of more than 40,000 people, including women, youth and babies.
“The accession of Finland and Sweden will make them safer, NATO more powerful and Euro-Atlantic dominance more secure,” he said.
Others at the summit:
– New Strategic Concept, alliance-style in a more competitive world, approved
– More army and money for Ukraine in the long run
– Launch of the NATO Innovation Fund to harness new technologies for transatlantic security
– Target nato agencies and commands’ emissions by at least 45% by 2030, move to Net Zero by 2050
– Fundamental change in defense and deterrence to respond to a new security reality
This includes strengthening forward defenses, battle groups in the eastern component of the alliance, transforming the NATO Response Force, and expanding the number of highly available forces to more than 300,000.
Russia called it the “most direct threat” to the security, peace and stability of allies in the Euro-Atlantic zone.
The allies acknowledge that they face “systemic competition” from those who, China adds, “the interests and security of the alliance seek to undermine the rules-based foreign order. “
