National Forum on Minority Quality Announces Release of Baseline Study Results on Rural Minorities and Coronaviruses in Population Health Management

A study reveals that, despite past headlines, COVID-19 infection rates are higher among other people of color.

Washington, D. C. –(Newsfile Corp. – December 20, 2023) – The National Minority Quality Forum, a nonprofit advocacy and research organization committed to ensuring that minority populations obtain optimal physical care, said The Center for Clinical and Social Research (CCSR) Minority and Rural Coronavirus Study (MRCIS) Baseline Report was published in Population Health Management. MRCIS is a five-year longitudinal study of the effects of the coronavirus with a specific focus on the effect of the virus on minority and rural communities. .

The MRCIS was introduced at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Five federal health centers (FQHCs) located in Florida, California, Illinois, Ohio and Louisiana were chosen as attractive sites. Study participants completed a baseline survey and won a polymerase test. chain reaction (PCR) and antibody testing to verify COVID-19 infection status, as well as other laboratory tests at no cost to participants. The blood samples were sent and stored in a biobank, which will allow for long-term research.

A total of 3238 participants were enrolled in this study, making it a multi-site community-based epidemiological survey on the social and structural determinants of health, clinical, environmental, and genetic points related to the COVID-19 pandemic in minorities and rural areas. communities in the United States.
