Narita opens Japan’s first coronavirus checkpoint for departures

Japan’s largest airport opened a new coronavirus testing facility on Monday as it takes steps to reopen the foreigner that has been largely anchored through the pandemic for months.

The PCR center at Narita International Airport is intended for outgoing travelers who want evidence that they are virus-free when they arrive at their destination.

On Friday, Japan eased restrictions for nine Asian countries and regions.

Narita is one of two centers serving the Tokyo metropolitan area.

The verification lab, run by the Nippon Medical School Foundation, is the first at an airport in Japan and can produce effects in six hours, plans to reduce that number to two until the end of the month.

Tests are covered by insurance and can charge up to 46,500 yen ($444).

Japan’s restrictions on combating the pandemic have been strict, with an effective ban on tourists and visa holders from more than 150 countries before a slow remnant of regulations begins in September.

Travelers arriving in Japan must go through a coronavirus test, with 3 foreign airports with capacity to perform approximately 10,000 a day.

With approximately 100,000 cases and 1,773 deaths, Japan has withstood the pandemic that many primary economies.
