Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni declared August 29 as a national day of prayer following a dramatic increase in the last days in Covid-19 cases. The ministry of fitness reported that another 155 people had tested positive minutes before Museveni announced a holiday calling on the Ugandans to pray “that God may liberate” the country from the pandemic. On his official Twitter account, Museveni said he came to resolution after an un named user approached him with a vision of God and ordered him to perform national prayers. In April, in neighboring Tanzania, President John Magufuli declared a three-day era of national prayer to help combat the new coronavirus, and reported cases in the country at the time increased to 94. In July, he declared Tanzania free from Covid-19 by saying that God had answered the country’s prayers. The last official Covid-19 update in Tanzania in May, when 29 active instances were registered, a total of 509 instances and 21 deaths, according to the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center.
